A P7M attachment your phone will not open?
You can open P7M files online in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, without installing a dedicated reader. Choose the file saved on your phone: the document is processed in the browser. Opening, local signature checks and the first PDF page are free; downloads, printing and full previews require a paid plan.
Can iPhone and Android open P7M files without an app?
A PDF and a PDF.P7M are different files. A P7M envelope contains the document and its CAdES signature data: the content must be extracted before a regular PDF reader can open it. Preview on iPhone reads PDFs and images; Files by Google reads PDFs. Those features are useful after extraction: PDF support alone does not open the signed envelope.
If Mail, Files or your file manager shows only the attachment name or an app chooser, use a compatible reader or the online P7M viewer on the homepage. Renaming .pdf.p7m to .pdf is not enough. Apps already installed on your phone may change the available options.
How to open a P7M file on iPhone with Safari
Save the actual attachment first, then choose it on the website. Command names depend on your iOS language and email app; in a PEC mailbox, download the individual signed document.
Save the P7M from Mail or PEC.
In Mail, touch and hold the attachment and choose “Save to Files”, or use “Share” and save it to Files. Choose a folder you can find again, for example under “On My iPhone”. If you use iCloud Drive, wait until the file is available. Keep the full name, such as contract.pdf.p7m.
Open the homepage in Safari.
Go to the viewer on the homepage and tap “Choose a file”. In the iOS picker, choose the option to browse files, find your saved folder and select the P7M. You do not need to open it in Preview first or choose a photo.
Read the document and checks.
The website extracts the content in browser memory. You can read the first page of a PDF for free; supported FatturaPA invoices have a readable view. Integrity, certificate dates, trust and revocation remain separate results.
Save the result if you need it.
With a paid plan, download the original PDF, XML or invoice reading PDF. Find the download in Files, in the Downloads folder configured for Safari. If the result opens in a preview, use Share → Save to Files. Keep the received P7M too.

How to open a P7M file on Android with Chrome
On Samsung, Pixel and other Android phones, folder and picker names can differ. Start with the downloaded file, even if your phone says that no app can open it.
Download the individual .p7m attachment.
Use the attachment download command in your email or PEC app. Check Downloads in your file manager, which may be called Files or My Files. A PEC receipt or an .eml message is not the same file as the signed document.
Choose it on the homepage in Chrome.
Open the website in Chrome, tap “Choose a file” and find the document under Recent or Downloads in the system picker. Choose the file option if a camera option is also offered. You do not need to set a default P7M app.
Check the extracted content.
Keep the tab open until the result appears. A PDF.P7M may contain a PDF; an XML.P7M invoice contains XML instead. The actual format, rather than just the name, determines the available view.
Find PDF and XML exports in Downloads.
Downloads, printing, all pages and ZIP require a paid plan. After exporting, check Chrome → menu → Downloads or your file manager. Open an extracted PDF with a PDF reader; a generic XML needs an appropriate app.

P7M readers for phones: price and convenience
If you only need to read an attachment, compare reading and export access, rather than the cost of a certificate for signing new documents. Free readers also exist. An app may be convenient if you often open attachments from the Share menu; a browser avoids installing a dedicated reader.
On small screens, swipe across the table to compare all columns.

How to use mobile apps to open or check a P7M
These steps follow the developers’ documentation. Commands use the language of those guides and may vary by version. Install from the official store and check the developer name: several apps have very similar names.
P7M Viewer on iPhone: import and read
Filippo Maguolo’s store listing documents importing and exporting signed files.
- Install P7M Viewer by Filippo Maguolo from the App Store.
- In Mail or Files, open the P7M Share menu and choose the reader from the available apps.
- Inspect the content and signers; use the app’s export or print commands if you need a copy.
Ad removal is a separate €2.99 purchase in the Italian storefront; it is not a signing certificate.
Aruba Firma on iOS and Android: verification
If you already use Aruba remote signing, follow the official setup guide and import the document into the app.
- Open the configured app and find the signed document in its file list.
- Open the file menu: ⋯ on iOS or ⋮ on Android, then choose “Verifica” (Verify).
- Review the result; tap the signer’s name and “Apri certificato” (Open certificate) for details.
The price of a service for creating signatures is not a fee required to read every P7M. Check your account requirements before choosing this route.
Infocert Sign Mobile: verification and reports
This is the current name of the app that older guides call GoSign. Official information requires an active InfoCert remote signature to use the app.
- Install the official app and configure your remote signing service using the provider’s guide.
- On the home screen, choose “Verifica” (Verify) and select the signed document saved on your phone.
- Read the results and signer details. “Scarica report” (Download report) saves the verification report.
A verification report is not the original PDF inside the P7M. For an occasional attachment, check whether a compatible reader meets your needs before buying a signing service.
Convert P7M to PDF on your phone: what do you get?
Before you convert P7M to PDF, check the content. Changing the extension does not extract the document or create a PDF.
- PDF.P7M
- You can extract the original PDF without changing its bytes, then read it in Preview or an Android PDF reader. The CAdES signature stays in the P7M envelope and need not appear as a graphic signature on the PDF.
- XML.P7M · invoice
- For a supported FatturaPA invoice, you can read its data, export the original XML or generate a reading PDF. The generated PDF is a reference copy and does not replace the signed XML invoice.
- Other formats
- A Word document or generic XML does not automatically become a PDF. After extraction, you need an app that supports the original format.
Reading the content is separate from validating the signature
p7m online checks cryptographic integrity, certificate dates, trust and revocation separately. It does not send the document to a server or make online OCSP or CRL requests. Missing evidence remains unverified: “unknown” does not mean “valid”. These local checks are not a qualified validation service. Keep the original P7M after exporting.
P7M file not opening on iPhone or Android?
- The file is greyed out or missing in the picker
- Choose the option to browse files rather than Photos. Save the attachment again in a local folder and wait for any download from iCloud or another app. If you are inside an email app’s built-in browser, switch to Safari or Chrome and choose the file again.
- You cannot find the downloaded PDF
- Check Files → Downloads on iPhone, or Chrome → Downloads and your file manager on Android. The folder depends on browser settings. Downloads on p7m online require a single export or a licence.
- The result is XML or the file is named smime.p7m
- XML can be the original content rather than a conversion error. An S/MIME attachment may instead be encrypted: this website does not decrypt EnvelopedData envelopes. Encrypted messages need the recipient’s client and key; a detached signature also needs the original document.
- The tab reloads or processing stops
- Use an up-to-date browser with JavaScript enabled and try one file at a time. The tool allows up to 50 files per session without imposed size limits, but your phone can run out of memory. Keep the tab open while reading or exporting.
Questions about P7M, iPhone and Android
Can I open P7M files on iPhone without installing an app?
Yes. For supported documents, save the P7M in Files, open the homepage viewer in Safari and choose the document. Reading takes place in the browser; a regular PDF reader alone does not unwrap the P7M.
How can I open P7M files on Android for free?
On p7m online you can open the file, read the first PDF page and see local checks without registration. Downloads, printing, all pages and ZIP require a paid plan. Other apps have their own terms.
Do I need a paid digital signature to read a P7M?
A signed file does not by itself require you to buy a signing service. A compatible reader can read an existing signed envelope. Creating a new signature is a different task; some providers require a remote signing service to use their apps.
Can I open a P7M attachment received through PEC on my phone?
Yes. Download the individual .p7m document from the PEC message, save it on your phone and choose it in the viewer. The website does not open a PEC mailbox or a whole .eml message. Keep the received signed document.
Can I remove .p7m from the name to get a PDF?
No. You must extract the envelope’s content. If it contains a PDF, you can recover the original PDF; if it contains an XML invoice, a reading PDF is a generated copy. Keep the P7M separately.
