P7M files: how to open,
read and extract them.
What is a P7M file?
A signed P7M file is a CAdES envelope based on CMS/PKCS#7 SignedData. It can contain a PDF, XML or another document plus signature information. A .p7m extension does not always mean a PDF: the enclosed file must be extracted to read it. Encrypted S/MIME mail is a different use case and is not decrypted by this viewer.

No. Contents, filenames, certificates and invoice data are processed in memory on your device. The website does not save documents. Website statistics do not include document information.

If the envelope contains a PDF, you download the exact original PDF. If it contains a FatturaPA XML invoice, you can download the original XML or generate a readable PDF. Other XML files can be extracted, but are not automatically converted to PDF. Downloads require a paid plan.

We inspect the digest and cryptographic signature, certificate dates and the chain against local trust authorities. Available local revocation evidence can be checked; without it, the result remains “not verified”. Available timestamps are shown separately. These results are not qualified legal validation.

Opening files, signature checks and the first PDF page are free, without registration. Downloads, printing, all pages and ZIP exports require a paid plan. Annual and Lifetime plans are activated with an email and license code. Select up to 10 files, with limits of 50 MB per file and 100 MB per session.

No. PDF to P7M means creating a digital signature, which requires a certificate and the signer's key. This tool opens already signed files and extracts their contents; it does not create signatures or change the original.

Use an up-to-date browser on Mac or Windows and choose the file on the homepage. No P7M reader installation is needed. If it contains a PDF, you can read the first page for free; downloads and full previews require a plan. Renaming .pdf.p7m to .pdf is not enough: the PDF must be extracted from the signed envelope.

A CAdES signature is stored in the P7M envelope and does not require a signature image on the PDF page. The extracted PDF may have no visible signature. Keep the original P7M and review integrity, certificate dates, trust and revocation separately: extraction alone does not establish legal validity.

This viewer opens already signed CMS SignedData envelopes; it does not decrypt S/MIME email or EnvelopedData envelopes. An encrypted file needs the recipient's private key and a compatible client. For a detached signature, also select the original document to inspect it.
